Melvins: Bullhead Vinyl LP
“Boris” is the 8-minute opener on Bullhead, and the song is telling of what the rest of the album feels like (Japanese drone-metal band Boris also also took its name from the song): down-tuned, heavy af guitar riffs, crushing drum part, tight basslines, and Buzz Osborne aka King Buzzo’s agonizing vocals. Whereas the first two Melvins albums (Gluey Porch Treatments, Ozma) were about shorter, brutally textured metal-punk dirges, the 1991 LP, the third studio effort from the band, features longer songs and more precise production. Easily one of the most beloved works from the influential three-piece group, check out “Anaconda,” “It’s Shoved,” and “Ligature.”
