While the beats may be familiar to DOOM aficionados and fans, Masta Ace handles his own and creates a cohesive and unified theme. Stories of going out and getting in trouble, waking up at the hospital are strung together with ease. In a way it feels as if Masta Ace has moved into DOOM’s world. The off kilter and slightly intoxicated feeling of the beats lends a hazy vibe to the tales of growing up with a single mother. In the end this trip through the soul infused era that saw the birth of hip hop proves to have well been worth the wait.
