Another welcome round of balearic bliss from Mark Barrott. The British producer certainly knows a thing or two about laid back island vibes having founded the widely respected International Feel imprint, as well as recording several standout releases under his own name and numerous aliases. That said, Sketches From An Island 2 is like a masterclass in sonic relaxation. From the initial sunshine downtempo vibes of “Brunch With Suki,” you can tell this one is perfect for a lazy sunday, driving down the coast, or chillin’ at the beach with the waves at your feet. “Driving To Cap Negret” continues the feeling with shimmering synths dancing around bright guitars and breezy percussion, while “Winter Sunset Sky” transports us to ambient worlds filled with warm gradient atmospheres. By now you should be fully immersed in the chill zone, but if you’re still not convinced, check the steady marimbas of “Cirrus & Cumulous,” the new age visions of “Der Stern, Der Nie Vergeht,” and the introspective “One Slow Thought.” Consider this an express ticket to chill. Double vinyl with gatefold sleeve and etched “D” side. Recommended.
