Lnrdcroy: Ooze City Vinyl 12″
Lnrdcroy’s output over the past few years has been as unpredictable as it is good. His 2014 debut for 1080p, with its hazy and deep moments, helped to put a stamp on the nascent Vancouver sound. Subsequent 12″ releases have found the Canadian producer exploring different sides of house and Ooze City, his first release for Mood Hut, continues the trend. The title track, with its late night acid vibe, might be the most unpredictable track here. It’s a chugging cut that strips away the deep melodies and new age aspirations Lnrdcroy is typically known for. He returns to more familiar territory with the ambient house of “Aquabus (Plaza Of Nations Dub),” which sets a rolling kalimba rhythm to a pounding kick and airy percussion. Glacial synths ride out tribal drumming on the closer, “Kali Yuga.” It’s a light moment that seems to serve as a counterpoint to the title track’s more stripped down approach. And it’s this varied approach that sets Lnrdcroy apart from today’s crowded field of producers. Recommended.
