Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam are cousins, and the Melbourne natives began working together after a chance collabo at a family function. After a slew of well-received EPs, like 2016’s Well Worn, KLLO unveils its debut full-length, and it’s a poised and polished effort that marries Kaul’s silky, r&b-influenced vocals with Lam’s slinky bass-indebted productions. The group is certainly exploring the more experimental edges of popular music, but it does so without alienating, packing the 12-tracker with delicate emotions, lofty melodies, and pleasantly shuffling rhythms. Highlights include “Virtue,” “Dissolve,” “Nylon,” and “Downfall.”
