Kiki Gyan: 24 Hours In A Disco 1978-82 (180g) Vinyl 2LP
African disco fiyah! Kiki Gyan has been hailed as “Africa’s answer to Stevie Wonder,” and after hearing these sounds it’s easy to see why. The supremely gifted Ghanian multi-instrumentalist emerged from life as a high school dropout to touring internationally with the super group Osibisa as their keyboardist. From there, Gyan became a sought-after session player in London (all before the age of 21 mind you), and ultimately recorded several ambitious disco tracks. 24 Hours in A Disco compiles the best of Kiki Gyan’s disco output from the years of 1978 to 1982, and each track is an absolute dance floor monster. From the relentless grooves of the opener “Disco Dancer,” to the electrifying title track, and the 10+ minute K.G. Band burner “Loving You,” this double LP reissue is worth its weight in dance floor gold. Out of print since 2012, this is the 2018 repress from Soundway.
