Jazz Dispensary: Cosmic Stash (Colored Vinyl) Vinyl 4LP Boxset (Record Store Day)
LP1 Soul Diesel; LP2 Purple Funk; LP3 Og Kush; LP4 Astral Travelin’. The doctor’s orders are in, and the prescription calls for Jazz Dispensary: Cosmic Stash. The concept behind this 4LP RSD release is so dank, with each of the 4 colored vinyl containing top-shelf, hard-to-find breaks and samples from the likes of Bernard Purdie, Isaac Hayes, David Axelrod, the Lafayette Afro Rock Band, the Blackbirds, and Pharaoh Sanders. “There’s a trip for every mood,” and each LP consists of distinct musical strains, color coded on to orange, purple, green, and clear vinyl for a “truly extrasensory experience.” Here are some highlights from each of the records: 1st LP includes high-energy ‘60s soul-jazz like 7” edit of Rusty Brayant’s “Fire Eater” and Pucho & Hi Latin Soul Brothers’ “Got Myself a Good Man,” which the Chemical Brothers sampled for “Block Rockin’ Beats”; 2nd LP is all about “cerebral euphoria w/ physical relaxation by way of iconic breaks as heard in hits by LL Cool J, Biz Markie, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul; 3rd LP is ALL about sampled songs, and the 4th LP is about expanding your horizons and getting lost in dense, textual, loose, and groovy tunes by Lonnie Liston Smith, Jack DeJohnette and more. Very limited Record Store Day 2016 release housed in four-way fold-out box with picture jacket for each disc.
