Idjut Boys: Cellar Door LP
Despite a 20 year career DJing around the world, producing countless edits and remixes, the Idjut Boys have never released a proper artist album. With Cellar Door the duo of Daniel Tyler and Conrad McConnell have produced a full length LP that defies their fans expectations. Although, if you’re a fan of the Idjuts you should know to expect the unexpected; their DJ sets could include anything from 70s jock metallists Nazareth to Phil Collins interspersed with perhaps some Underground Resistance for light relief, swiftly followed by the Temptations. It’s something that makes their DJ sets non-conformist, occasionally brilliant, sometimes floor-clearing, but always interesting. So, those of you expecting an album full of floor filling disco not disco tracks might be a little disappointed at first. However, the blokes do come through with some highly workable numbers, like “One For Kenny” and “Love Hunter.” There is more to Cellar Door than just dance tracks though. It’s an album meant for listening as well as dancing. “What we’ve tried to do is make an LP, four tracks a side on vinyl,” reports Conrad. “You stick it on your stereo, have a cup of coffee and read the paper. When it’s finished you stick the other side on. So we’ve made an LP in the traditional way.”
