I. Roy: Presenting I. Roy (Music On Vinyl 180g, Colored Vinyl) Vinyl LP
Crucial early dancehall LP, back in print! Roy Samuel Reid was christened I-Roy by Harry Mudie, due to his similarity to foundation toaster U-Roy, and on Presenting, you can definitely hear traces of U-Roy’s original sing-songy style in I-Roy’s chat. After spending some time holding down King Tubby’s Hometown Hi-Fi soundsystem, I-Roy linked with legendary producer Gussie Clarke for his debut album, released in Jamaica on Gussie’s own label and on Trojan in the UK. The riddims are laid back and cool, just how we like them, with the perfect amount of space echo embellishing I-Roy’s slick toasting. Be sure to check “Red, Gold & Green,” “Smile Like An Angel,” “Melinda” and “Cow Town Skank.” Limited edition Music On Vinyl audiophile pressing, individually numbered & pressed on 180 gram “dancehall too hot” orange colored wax.
