Gilles Peterson: Black Jazz Radio CD
Gilles Peterson pays tribute to one of his favorite labels, Black Jazz Records! Ya’ll should already be familiar with Gilles from his BBC Radio show, his own Brownswood label, and of course, his legendary deep crates. Here he picks the cream of the crop from the Black Jazz catalog (circa 1971-1976) to create a stellar mix that successfully ties showcases the many facets of the label’s sound. From deep spiritual jazz, first class fusion, and soul dipped jazz funk, all styles are represented with tracks from Doug Carn, Gene Russell, Roland Haynes, Kellee Patterson, Calvin Keys, and more. Part two of the three mix series (check part three from digger supreme DJ Muro) from Snow Dog Japan. A must cop for jazz heads. Recommended.
