Francis Bebey: Remixed (Pilooski, Daphni) Vinyl 12″
Heat Alert! Two Lab favorites take on remix duties for seminal African electronic musician Francis Bebey and the result is magic on wax. Heads should recognize Cameroonian artist Francis Bebey’s work from the excellent Born Bad reissue comp from awhile back, but on this special 12″ Born Bad recruits Pilooski and Daphni (aka Caribou’s dance alias) to rework tracks for the floor. Checkout Pilooski’s variation of “Bissao” that adds a thick house bump under the already hypnotic African melodies, while Daphni proceeds to rock tough drum programming under “Forrest Whistle” for the ill afro-future fusion. Worth it for these two alone, but check the hidden heat on the flip by way of It’s A Fine Line who transform “Le Domaine Reserve Du Colonel” into a chilled out balearic beat groover and the cosmic-afro vibes of Young Marco’s mix of “Coffee Cola”. Well recommended.
