The sophomore album from Vini Reilly’s Durutti Column . Originally released on Factory Records in 1981, this masterpiece of melodic guitar rock was the first to feature Reilly’s vocals. Reilly’s amateurish delivery is archetypal new wave, while his guitar melodies are unparalleled in the genre. 90’s era Thrill Jockey acts like Tortoise and its offshoots seem to draw a lot from the band, but they never quite reached Reilly’s instrumental mastery. If this was an R&B, you’d file under it under “Grown & Sexy”, but instead you’ll find tossed around the new wave and easy listening sections. After purchase, go to the corner store, buy some brown liquid and break out the PAX.
