Ride to this. Devonwho stepping out with an impressive full length of (mostly) instrumentals for Leaving Records. The left coast producer built his name alongside Knxwledge, Mndsgn, and Suzi Analogue with Klipmode, but here he’s letting the funk loose over 13 tracks of heavy modern funk grooves. Anyone into the style that Dam-Funk has built up in recent years owes it to themselves to peep Devonwho’s sound. No doubt he’s got chops on the synths, but the arrangement and beats are top notch to boot. Highlights include “Cruisecontrol” with Zackey Force Funk and I, Ced, “Purple,” “Alphaloop,” “Recurringtheme,” and “Trio,” but really the whole thing knocks. Recommended.
