Dennis Ferrer: Church Lady 12″
Huge Dennis Ferrer track from 2007. The bumping drums, church organ stabs, and rhythmic bassline come together to construct a deep and physical house experience, but the real driving force of the song, of course, is the intense, gospel-like vocals courtesy of Danil Wright. DF has mentioned that the lyrics were inspired by his personal experience growing up around “open door policy” church ladies, and despite the despairing story being told, the harmonies and vocal layers, especially in the “Glory, Hallelujah” hook, really take the song to a higher, more spiritual level. Yes, it’s four years old, but “Church Lady” sounds as real and uplifting as ever, and will still have maximum impact on discerning house crowds. Highly Recommended.
