Del The Funky Homosapien, Kid Koala and Dan The Automator have reunited for Deltron 3030! It’s hard to believe that it’s been 13 years since we last heard from the trio. This time around they’ve enlisted a slew of guests to help along the ride. Surprisingly or maybe not so, there are quite a few actor buddies and comedians that provide a degree of levity to the affair. Event 2 continues the adventure with the help of Joseph Gordon-Levitt who’s opening skit “Stardate” sets up “The Return.” From there we’re caught up to speed with everything that’s happened in the intervening decade since we last heard from Deltron. Del draws parallels with what’s been going down in the real world, with references to the financial crisis, the widening wealth gap, and Big Brother’s growing reach. He’s on point with the vocal gymnastics and dynamic word play that we’ve come to expect, as well. Although the skits and the story line don’t always add up, it’s plenty entertaining to get bits from The Lonely Island and David Cross. As usual Dan The Automator knows what he is doing and has dropped some serious business to compliment Del’s hero’s journey. Event 2 definitely leans a little more to the rock side of things than the trio’s debut, but with the help of Kid Koala’s deft turntable techniques we’re living in a hip hop world.
