Courtney Marie Andrews: May Your Kindness Remain (Colored Vinyl) Vinyl LP
Courtney Marie Andrews is a singer & songwriter known for her eclectic take on folk, country, and indie pop music. Born in Phoenix, AZ, she began writing lyrics in her early teens. She embarked upon her first tour by the time she was 16, performing in traditional venues in addition to busking on sidewalks and in shopping centers, bars, and restaurants. After jaunts up and down the US coasts, she landed jobs as a session musician for acts such as Damien Jurado and Jimmy Eat World. She released her first album Urban Myths in 2008, the first in a series of acclaimed releases on various independent labels. May Your Kindness Remain is her first for Fat Possum, and continues her reflections and ruminations about the struggles of the general population. “May Your Kindness Remain” begins with a hymn-like organ introducing soft instrumentation, Andrews’ voice soaring but remaining grounded with an earthy twang. “Two Cold Nights in Buffalo” is charming chipper guitar and warm, rambling Wurlitzer piano in stark contrast to the bleak content of the lyrics. “Kindness of Strangers” is a hearty head-nodder, “Long Road Back To You” is a suitably restrained closer with slo-mo guitar solos and fierce tremolo vocals. This album is pressed on pink colored vinyl and includes a printed inner sleeve with full album lyrics.
