Third studio album from New Zealand’s Connan Mockasin. Jassbusters is a genre bending journey that finds the singer-songwriter moving through slow burning ballads and soft rock escapades. Mocaksin’s idiosyncratic personality adds a light touch to the proceedings. He gets a little help from the inimitable James Blake on “Momo’s,” a quite heavenly affair. Conceived as a companion piece to Bostyn ‘n Dobsyn, a five-part melodrama directed by and starring Mockasin, the music moves in eclectic ways. It’s about as surrealist as modern soft pop can get. Eight tracks in all. Released by Mexican Summer on black vinyl housed in a full color sleeve with a limited edition poster and a digital download.
