Originally released in 1981 on the tiny Ivory Coast imprint, West African Music, both tracks offer a near minimal techno approach that proved to be way ahead of their time. Codek’s “Closer” might be the pick here with its chugging rhythm, monotone vocals and deadly arpeggios. Excellently primed for the dancefloor. Flip the record over and prepare for something completely unexpected. Falsetto chants lead the way for off kilter rhythms and all manner of funky synth squiggles and punchy drum programming.
