Description
Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie: Bird And Diz (Audiophile Clear Vinyl) ACV Vinyl LP
Final collaboration between jazz greats Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Bird And Diz was originally recorded in 1950, but was not released until 1952. Producer Norman Granz, who Parker was working with at the time, helmed the sessions and saw the release as an opportunity to introduce Parker to a larger audience. Both Bird and Diz are in rare form, going after each other with ferocity on many of the takes. The recordings are also notable for the inclusion of Thelonious Monk and Buddy Rich. However the former’s idiosyncratic piano is a bit buried in the mix and the later’s contributions have been lamented as intrusive by some. Thirteen tracks in all. Released by Doxy on their Audiophile Clear vinyl.
