Butthole Surfers: Independent Worm Saloon Vinyl LP
Sixth studio album from San Antonio’s Butthole Surfers. Independent Worm Saloon was originally released in 1993 and was the band’s Capitol Records debut. After the collapse of their previous label, Rough Trade, the band was courted by major labels in the rush to find the next Nirvana. The ended up signing with Capitol who paired them up with Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones as their producer. The resulting album was a bit more straightforward than their previous releases due to Jones’ insistence. This led to their first minor radio hit, “Who Was in My Room Last Night?” The album is slightly reminiscent of singer Gibby Haynes’ collaboration with Ministry, “Jesus Built My Hot Rod.” However, Independent Worm Saloon is packed with its own unique moments. Includes the songs: “The Annoying Song,” “The Ballad of Naked Man,” “Alcohol,” and “Strawberry.” Seventeen tracks in all. Released by Plain Recordings on 180 gram vinyl.
