Beverly Glenn-Copeland: Beverly Glenn-Copeland Vinyl LP
Stunning. Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s eponymous debut album from 1970 is a sublime revelation. Here the Canadian singer-songwriter eloquently blurs the line between folk and spiritual jazz, distilling their energies into a potent, goose bump-inducing work. Beverly’s voice takes the spot light on almost every track; it is at the same time dramatic and soothing, often registering in the high vocal range. The all-star backing band, consisting of mostly Canadian jazz players Dough Bush, Don Thompson, Terry Clark, Lenny Breau, Jeremy Steig and Doug Riley, play off Glenn-Copeland’s vocals masterfully. This official 2018 reissue comes housed in heavy tip-on gatefold sleeve, complete with printed insert, and housed in thick plastic bag with custom sticker, courtesy of Super-Sonic Jazz. Recommended.
