Ben Pirani: How Do I Talk To My Brother? Vinyl LP
Debut studio album from Chicago’s Ben Pirani. Having dropped a slew of singles both as a solo artist and in groups like Determiner and Benjamin, it was only a matter of time that we got How Do I Talk To My Brother?. With a father that played piano on some of Terry Callier’s most notable records, one can only assume that Ben Pirani had a seriously soulful upbringing. And it’s evident in cuts like the 60s style “Light Of My Life,” and “Can’t Get Out Your Own Way” with its Motown stomp. There’s the steamy slow jam “Art School Girl” which hits all the marks: sultry strings, layers of horns and backing vocals for extra oomph. The production is on point and period perfect in that Daptone kind of way. Ten tracks in all. Released by Colemine Records on black vinyl housed in a gatefold, tip on sleeve with a digital download.
