Baby Huey: The Baby Huey Story – The Living Legend (180g) Vinyl LP
If Baby Huey didn’t die of natural causes at the age of 26, he could have been one of the biggest funk acts of our time. A 350 pound mound of loud soul, Huey’s energetic stage presence only widened his fame as a worldwide touring artist. The Baby Huey Story – The Living Legend is his one and only LP from 1971, released posthumously, on Curtis Mayfield‘s own Curtom label (Mayfield also handles production here). Watch for his powerful live cover of “Mighty Mighty,” sure to get ’em open with Huey’s moving vocals and the children’s backing chorus. Diggers will immediately recognize “Hard Times,” the big draw here, as sampled by countless acts from ATCQ, Biz Markie, Ice Cube and Ghostface, to DJ Shadow, The Chemical Brothers, and Lil Wayne. Also worth checking “Listen To Me” with it’s tight outro break driven by Huey’s unique grunts. Top quality repress on 180 gram vinyl, complete with original gatefold repro and liner notes.
