Description
Automatic: Signal Vinyl LP
Automatic formed organically when Izzy Glaudini, Lola Dompe, and Halle Saxon, met in LA’s DIY scene and started jamming. They decided against the guitar early on to combat “masculine energy and uninspiring rock music heard on the radio” and opted for synthesizers; Signal is the group’s debut album. Dub reggae, motorik rhythms, and tasteful, stripped-down synth work take center stage, and the trio’s dark, haunting take on post punk and synth pop drives the 11-tracker. The lyrics are kept simple, and the vocals weave in good melodies into the skeletal instrumentals, check out “Signal,” “Suicide in Texas,” “Too Much Money,” and “Humanoid.” Recommended for fans of Neu!, Suicide, David Lynch soundtracks and the likes.
