Arts & Crafts: Red Bull Sound Select For Record Store Day No.1 LP (Record Store Day)
Red Bull enlists Toronto’s Arts & Crafts for a 6-track release that showcases the city’s indie / electronic pop talent, and man does the 6 have talent! Check River Tiber’s “Gravity,” a slinky, modernized r&b that bubbles with gliding bass, rolling hi hats, and warm, inviting chords. Charlotte Day Wilson takes a more aloof, subtle approach to updating sounds rooted in soul, and “After All” is characterized by gentle, mid-tempo beat that leaves plenty of room for the artist’s vocals. The Darcys catchy electro pop number “Lip Service” is also on the record, and Lowell’s “High Enough” is a dark, cinematic dream pop number full of interesting sonic details and a driving (but not overwhelming) drum beat. Rounding out the excellent comp is a dark, slow-burning “TV” from FRIGS. S/O to Red Bull and Arts & Crafts for this one, limited to 900 copies!
