Main Source: Just Hangin Out / Live At The BBQ Vinyl 7″
Officially licensed 7″ pressing of Main Source‘s 1991 double A sider, featuring the original mix of timeless party cut “Just Hangin’ Out” plus the first appearance of a young Nas on “Live At The BBQ.” Mr Bongo hook it up on seven inch for the first time ever. Our OG Lab review:
A monumental single in the golden era of hip-hop. Just Hanging Out is a production classic. The Sister Nancy Bam Bam loop is catchy like a prostitute on 9th street. I like to play the remix instrumental at parties and watch everyone get down and dirty during the beat breakdown. Flip it over and you got one those classic crew tracks that the early 90s was known for. Once again, another production classic with that hype beat and the riot ensuing “hooooo.” Pick your poison cause the original and remix are equally as dope (ed. note: this pressing includes the original). “When I was 12, I went to hell for snuffing Jesus.” This line in Barbecue is historic, cause it opened up lyricism to a new level. Nas’ debut verse (!) combined the wordplay of a Native Tongues’ verse, the street ingenuity of a Kool G verse, and a smooth delivery never heard before. Quite possibly one of the best verses ever.
