Description
Grupo Controle Digital: A Festa E Nossa (Brazilian Electro) Vinyl LP
Lone release from ’80’s Brazilian duo, reissued in full for the first time. First released in 1988, A Festa E Nossa was the only album released by Grupo Controle Digital, a duo composed of Billy Jaguar and Gel Valiery. Influenced by such contemporaries as Tim Maia and Secos E Molhados, the album features lo-fi synths, cruising bass lines, and drum machine rhythms that make it sound like some kind of cross between new-wave, synth-pop, and proto hip-hop. After it’s release and the death of Gel in the 90’s, the album faded into obscurity until relatively recently, when the title track “A Festa E Nossa” (a dancefloor gem) circulated the last few years in DJ sets, eventually being included on the Onda De Amor – Synthesized Brazilian Hits That Never Were (1984-94) compilation put out by Soundway earlier this year. Now, clean copies of the original album go for triple digits on the second-hand market, so this remastered reissue (from the original tapes) is the next best thing. The sound is surprisingly similar to another Soundway release, Gumba Fire: Bubblegum Soul & Synth-Boogie in 1980s South Africa. 10 tracks in all, housed in heavyweight tip-on sleeve. Recommended.
