Essential electro-acoustic explorations from Graeme Miller & Steve Shill. The Moomins is the original soundtrack for the Polish made animated fantasy of the same name. Based on a Finnish modern folk tale, the show was created for German and Austrian TV in the early 1980s. Post-punk theater performers Graeme Miller & Steve Shill took the limited resources they had – a Wasp synthesizer, an ocarina and a cassette of the Robinson Crusoe music taped off the TV – and created a piece of music that is familiar as it is foreign. Tribal rhythms meld with proto Mario Kart vibes over two sides of an unforgettable album. Fifteen tracks in all. Released by Finders Keepers Records on black vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve. Recommended.
