Cut Copy: Haiku From Zero Vinyl LP
fifth studio album from Melbourne’s Cut Copy. Haiku From Zero finds the band exploring tropical rhythms, Talking Heads infused funk, Afrobeat, with a little dose of surf rock. It’s an ambitious effort that has a more band oriented sound than 2013’s Free Your Mind. They bring in psych rock with the anthemic “Living Upside Down,” and take a spin back to the early 80s on “Standing in the Middle of a Field.” There’s plenty going on throughout the record, especially on the lead track, “Airborne.” It seems to have it all; hooky guitars layered with synth-pop before settling into a heavy duty club cut. With Haiku From Zero Cut Copy keep doing what they do best: finding the sweet spot between the dance floor and an underground indie rock show. Nine tracks in all. Released by Astralwerks on black vinyl housed in a full color sleeve with a printed inner sleeve and foldout insert.
