Blackcash & Theo: Galaxy Vol.30 (Gil Scott-Heron, Odyssey) Vinyl 7″
Trusted splicers Blackcash & Theo serve up two more sweated soul sides for the Galaxy Sample Series. Up top is Gil Scott-Heron‘s sobering “Not So Easy To Be Free” (also known as “The Klan”) a fine example of GSH’s ability to take the darkest subject matter available and make it groove hard as shit. Like most of Blackcash & Theo‘s edits, this one’s restrained and respectful; doesn’t feel like an *edit* at all. On the back is some refreshingly laid back balaeric soul fare from Odyssey, “Our Lives” from their lone 1972 self-titled album. Records nerds might recognize these as having been sampled in recent years, but both sides are more than good enough on their own for those who don’t. Both remastered and gently edited for break potency and DJ friendliness. Recommended.
